Panel Discussion “The Human Rights Impact of a Sustainable Investment Sector” on 13 November 2017

The ILF together with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF) and the Business & Human Rights Resource Centre hosted the panel discussion "The Human Rights Impact of a Sustainable Investment Sector" on 13 November 2017 at the House of Finance.

The welcome note to the first joint event of the ILF and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom was given by Patrick Walz, Head of Regional Office Wiesbaden of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom. Subsequently, Isabel L. Ebert, Western Europe Researcher & Representative of the Business and Human Rights Resource Centre in London, served as the key note speaker to launch the following panel discussion.

The panel discussion consisted of leading experts from Germany and the United Kingdom, namely Bettina Reinboth, Manager Social Issues at Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) in London, Clare Richards of ShareAction in London and Mauricio Lazala, Deputy Director & Head of Europe Office at the Business and Human Rights Resource Centre (BHRRC)/Corporate Human Rights Benchmark in Frankfurt. The panel discussion was moderated by Dr. Maximilian Spohr, Human Rights Representative of Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom.

The discussion mainly focused on the implementation of the UN Guiding Principles for Business and Human Rights (UNGP) of 2011, especially in the influential investment sector and involved questions raised by the audience. The evening was closed by a reception held for all panelists and participants.
