Dr. Thomas Huertas

Dr. Thomas F. Huertas, Director, Wholesale Firms Division and Banking Sector Leader,

Vita:

Thomas F. Huertas is responsible for the supervision of firms active in the UK in the wholesale banking, investment banking, insurance and asset management sectors. He also serves as the FSA's Sector Leader on Banking. In this capacity he is responsible for developing the FSA's 'risk map' on the banking sector. Dr. Huertas joined the FSA in November 2004.

Prior to joining the FSA, Dr. Huertas spent nearly 30 years at Citigroup (1975 to 2004), where he held a number of senior positions, including Vorsitzender des Vorstandes of Citibank AG (Deutschland), Chief Country Officer of Citigroup in Switzerland, and Chief Executive of Orbian (a trade finance and settlement company).

He earned a B.A. in Mathematics summa cum laude in 1970 from Fordham University. He attended the University of Chicago as a Woodrow Wilson Fellow and Ford Foundation Fellow, receiving an M.A. in Economics in 1972 and a Ph.D. in Economics in 1977.

The author of Citibank, 1812 to 1970 (Cambridge, Mass.: Harvard University Press, 1985), he is also the author of numerous articles on financial services and financial regulation.

Finally, Dr. Huertas has been a guest professor at the ILF since its inception. He lectures on Financial Intermediation and Risk Management. He also holds a guest professorship at the Technical University in Darmstadt.

Publications:

Dr. Huertas holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Chicago and has published widely on topics of banking regulation and strategy.
