Gabriel Fagan

Vita:

Gabriel Fagan was educated at Trinity College Dublin and University College Dublin. He joined the Central Bank of Ireland in 1985 where he was responsible for monitoring and forecasting the Irish economy. He moved to the Committee of Governors in Basel in 1992 where he worked in the Economic Unit, dealing with issues connected with the monetary policy cooperation in Stage 2 and preparations for monetary union. With the creation of the EMI in 1994, he moved to Frankfurt where he was a member of the Stage 3 Division working on a range of issues connected with the preparation of monetary union, including the operational framework, the monetary policy strategy and the preparation of econometric infrastructure. On the establishment of the ECB, he was appointed Head of the Econometric Modelling Division of the Directorate General Research which is responsible for the development and maintenance of economic models and the preparation of macroeconomic forecasts.

Publications:

Gabriel Fagan has published research in a number of fields: the operational framework of monetary policy in European countries, money demand in Europe, leading indicators, forecasting methods and techniques, econometric modelling and monetary policy strategy.
