Dr. Christoph Louven




Dr. Louven is partner in the international law firm Hogan Lovells International LLP (Düsseldorf office). He is the head of the firm's German Corporate/M&A group and member of the firm's Global M&A Steering Group.

Special interests

Dr. Louven’s practice focuses on complex domestic and cross-border, public and private M&A, other corporate transactions and Corporate Governance issues. He has a broad expertise in advising on corporate transactions of financial institutions. In addition he advises numerous listed companies in conjunction with their financing and funding of pension liabilities by way of the establishment of so-called Contractual Trust Arrangements (CTA's). Dr. Louven has authored several essays and articles in leading German law journals on corporate law related topics. He is co-author of a leading German commentary on public take-overs and co-author of a leading German commentary on insurance law (“corporate insurance law”), where his chapter covers corporate insurance law (“Versicherungsunternehmensrecht”).


Dr. Louven was born in Krefeld, Germany. He received his education at the universities of Marburg and Cologne, where he also took his degree of doctor of laws (Dr. iur.). In 1997 he obtained the “Universitätspreis der Universität zu Köln” for his thesis.
