Jan Caspar Hoffmann has worked on both sides of the spectrum, as a banker and as an investor. He has a keen interest in the field of public takeovers but embraces the challenge in many other areas of the diverse world of Corporate Finance at the same time.


Jan Caspar Hoffmann was born in Offenbach am Main, Germany. He studied at University of Cologne (Vordiplom) and Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien before entering French Grande Ecole EAP-Ecole des Affaires de Paris/ European School of Management (now ESCP), where he spent an academic year each in Oxford, Madrid, Paris and finally Berlin, graduating with the Diplom-Kaufmann and the French Diplome Grande Ecole de Gestion. Early 1999, Jan Caspar joined Merrill Lynch in Frankfurt in Investmentbanking and in the same function relocated to London in 2006. Shortly after, Jan Caspar moved to Merrill Lynch Global Private Equity also in London where he headed the German business of Merrill Lynch’s primary investment platform as a Senior Principal before joining Société Générale in mid 2010. In early 2015, Jan Caspar joined Moelis & Company as Managing Director and Head of M&A for German-speaking Europe, based in Frankfurt. Over the span of his career, Jan Caspar has advised on a number of large cap public takeovers in Germany, several of them in a cross-border context. He was also involved in various Private Equity-related transactions as a banker and as an investor and has spent much time on corporate carve-outs. Jan Caspar is a frequent lecturer at his alma mater EAP (now ESCP Europe Wirtschaftshochschule) in Berlin and at WHU-Otto Beisheim School of Management in Vallendar.
