25 January 2021: ILF Online-Conference on "Green Banking and Green Central Banking: What are the right concepts?"

The ILF will be hosting a full day conference in the series of financial reform co-chaired by Andreas Dombret, Global Senior Advisor, Oliver Wyman and former member of the Executive Board, Deutsche Bundesbank and Patrick Kenadjian, Adjunct Professor at the ILF and Senior Counsel, Davis Polk & Wardwell, LLP, London, on the topic of green banking and green central banking.

While COVID-19 has understandably monopolized much public attention in the past 10 months, the even greater danger of climate change has not abated and now is the time to refocus on what must be done to deal with it. The Institute for Law and Finance together with its knowledge partner Oliver Wyman has organized a full day conference on Monday, January 25, 2021 to cover the issues in depth.

Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank will deliver the keynote address and the faculty includes senior policy makers, bankers and investors, including Jens Weidmann, President of the Deutsche Bundesbank, Jose Manuel Campa, Chair of the EBA, John Berrigan, Director General, DG FISMA, Jörg Kukies of the German Federal Ministry of Finance, and CEOs Günther Bräunig of KfW Bankengruppe, Werner Hoyer of the EIB, Wiebe Draijer of Rabobank and Christian Sewing of Deutsche Bank. See the full list of speakers in the enclosed program.

The conference will ask the speakers to answer the questions that really matter, including:

- where will the money to finance the transition to a low carbon environment from, how far do the banks’ balance sheets stretch and where will the rest of the money come from?

- how much can we rely on the capital markets, especially in the EU, to get money to the parts of the economy which really need it, without greenwashing?

- how do governments organize not just a transition, but a just transition to a low carbon environment?

- is it time to revisit received ideas about the proper role for central banks?

Attendance is free, but you must register to attend. Registration can still take place during the course of the conference.
