16 to 21 March 2016: ILF Delegation Visited Universities in Hanoi, Vietnam and Bangkok, Thailand

Kind welcome at universities in Hanoi, Vietnam

On 16 March 2016, Dr. Rolf Friedewald, ILF Managing Director and Ms. Shen-Dee Kobbelt, Head of Porgrams and Marketing, had a meeting with the Counsellor of Cultural Affairs and Press of the German Embassy in Hanoi, Vietnam. They talked about the opportunities of the exchange of students from both countries.

The Hanoi Law University (HLU) welcomed the ILF delegation on the following day in a meeting with the Prof. Trương Quang Vinh, Vice-Dean, Prof. Le Thi Loi, German Law Center, Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Jürgen W. Simon, Dr. Vũ Thị Lan Anh, Vice-Rector, Dr. Nguyễn Văn Tuyến, Head of Developmental Affairs, Dr. Hoàng Xuân Châu, Head of Examination Board  and Dr. Phan Thị Lan Hương, Vice-Head of International Cooperation. The meeting continued the talks which started in Frankfurt am Main at the ILF on the basis of the cooperation agreement which was concluded in 2015. See link on website of HLU.

Dr. Phan Thi Thanh Thuy, Acting Head of the Department of Research and Partnership Development, and Dr. Phi Huyen Trang of Vietnam National University (VNU), Hanoi, welcomed the ILF delegation and opened a presentation held by Dr. Friedewald and Ms. Kobbelt about the ILF and its academic programs for law students of VNU on 17 March 2016.

 

Visit of leading law faculties of universities in Thailand and of the German law firm Lorenz & Partners

At a seminar for students held by Thammasat University, Bangkok, Thailand, on opportunities for law studies in Germany for Thai law students on 18 March 2015, Dr. Duc Quang Ly and Dr. Warawit Kanithasen, German-Southeast Asian Center of Excellence for Public Policy and Good Governance as well as Dr. Munin Pongsapan, Director of the LL.B. Program in Business Law, held speeches on studying law in Germany. Dr. Georg Verweyen, Director of DAAD Information Center Thailand, further lectured on opportunities to study law in Germany and on scholarships provided by the German Academic Exchange Service for Thai students. Dr. Friedewald and Ms. Kobbelt introduced the LL.M. International Finance Program and answered the questions of the participants on the scope of the program and on the admissions process.

On 21 March 2016, the ILF delegation was welcomed by representatives of the Faculty of Law of Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand, consisting of Vice-Dean Suphasit Taweejamsup, Ph.D. , Dr. Natchapol Jittirat and Ms. Supicha Chinnavaso. Both parties gave an overview of their academic programs in their presentations and agreed to continue to explore the possibilities of a closer cooperation in the near future.

To find out more about the Asian and Thai market for legal services and career opportunities of graduates of the ILF, Dr. Friedewald and Ms. Kobbelt visited the German law firm Lorenz & Partners, an international firm of business lawyers and consultants headquartered in Bangkok on 21 March 2016.  The firm specializes in legal, tax and business consultation for foreign companies investing in Southeast Asia. Besides Bangkok, Lorenz & Partners maintain offices in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, Hong Kong and Ho Chi Minh City. They were cordially welcomed by Mr. Till Morstadt, Resident Partner and German Attorney-at-Law.
