The 6th Digital Financial Services Forum “Open Finance in Europe” was virtually held by the Institute for Law and Finance (ILF), the law firm Freshfields and the Center for Financial Studies (CFS) on 15 May 2025.
This year’s forum focused on the proposed FIDA framework, which is currently in trilogue negotiations. The discussion revolved, in particular, around the questions whether there is a possible demand for the open finance regime proposed by FIDA, what new business models would it enable, and if it is now the right time for additional regulation for the financial sector.
Dr. Alexander Glos, Partner, Freshfields, opened the forum with a welcome address and gave an overview of this year's topic before Dr. Daniel Klingenbrunn, Principal Associate, Freshfields, talked about in his keynote speech “Data Sharing Schemes”. Ms. Natalie Pettinger Kearney, Head of EU Regulatory & Public Affairs, Freshfields, introduced the speakers of the day.
The following presentations were given:
- “Ten years of Open Banking: the promise, the hurdles, and the road ahead” by Ian Morrin, Head of Payments & Platforms, Tink
- “Digital Finance and Data Sharing” by Mr. Mattias Levin, Deputy Head of Service, Digital Finance Unit, DG FISMA
- “FiDA Framework – Opportunities and Challenges” by Mr. Stephan Mietke, Director, Digital Finance, Association of German Banks
The event concluded with a panel discussion amongst the speakers Ian Morrin, Stephan Mietke as well as Dr. Christoph Werkmeister, Partner, Global Co-Head of Data and Technology, Freshfields and it was moderated by Ms. Natalie Pettinger Kearney.
