Ceremonial Presentation of the Liber Amicorum for Prof. Dr. Andreas Cahn on 31 October 2024 at the Gästehaus of Goethe University Frankfurt

On 31 October 2024, friends and colleagues paid tribute to the professional and academic achievements of  Prof. Dr. Andreas Cahn, Executive Director and Founder of the Institute for Law and Finance, by presenting him with the Liber Amicorum "Nationales und Internationales Kapitalmarkt- und Gesellschaftsrecht - Festschrift für Andreas Cahn zum 65. Geburtstag".

The laudatory speech was held by Dr. Hendrik Haag, Member of the Executive Board of the Institute for Law and Finance. In addition to his academic successes, Prof. Dr. Andreas Cahn was recognized in particular for the decisive role he played in establishing the Institute for Law and Finance and its two Master programs LL.M. Finance and. LL.M. International Finance. Dr. Haag also share some personal memories and thanked him for the long-standing friendship that has developed while working together for the ILF.  Furthermore, Prof Dr. Chiara Zilioli, General Counsel of the European Central Bank, and Prof. Dr. Stefan Kadelbach, Dean of Faculty of Law of Goethe University Frankfurt, delivered words of appreciation in academic, professional and personal tributes. In his speech, Prof. Kadelbach also took a trip down memory lane and shared some personal anecdotes from their time together as young law students.

A leather-bound special edition of the Liber Amicorum was presented to the jubilarian by the editors Dr. Haag and Prof. Dr. Philipp Paech, University of Notre Dame/London School of Economics and Ms. Anna von Bonhorst, Head of Program for Civil Law at C.H. Beck Verlag. The jubilarian thanked the initiators and editors of the Liber Amicorum, the contributing authors and the friends and colleagues present in a moving and personal speech, emphasizing, in particular, that the publication presented to him was a book by friends.

The Liber Amicorum dedicated to Prof. Dr. Andreas Cahn on the occasion of his 65th birthday Amicorum "Nationales und Internationales Kapitalmarkt- und Gesellschaftsrecht - Festschrift für Andreas Cahn zum 65. Geburtstag", edited by Prof. Dr. David Donald, Dr. Hendrik Haag, and Prof. Dr. Philipp Paech, comprises a selection of 36 currently and doctrinally relevant academic papers in German and English on national and international capital market and corporate law. The authors of the Liber Amicorum, published by C.H. Beck Verlag, are mostly long-standing colleagues and friends from academia and practice. The publication is accompanied by greetings from the Minister of Finance of the State of Hesse, Prof. Dr. R. Alexander Lorz, to the jubilarian.

Professor Dr. Andreas Cahn, Executive Director of the Institute for Law and Finance, studied law at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University Frankfurt/Main and at the University of California at Berkeley, where he earned an LL.M. After his Second State Examination in Frankfurt he worked for 6 years as a research assistant at the University of Frankfurt. During this period of time he wrote his doctoral thesis on problems of managers’ liability (published in 1996) as well as his post-doctoral thesis on legal aspects of intra-group financing (published in 1998). In 1996 he took up the Chair of Civil Law, Commerce Law and Corporate Law at the University of Mannheim. Since October 2002 he is Director of the Institute for Law and Finance at Goethe-University in Frankfurt. He has published extensively on corporate law, capital markets law, the law of products liability, general civil law as well as on civil procedure. He is co-publisher of “Der Konzern”, a law journal focusing on company law, taxation and accounting of corporate groups, of “Corporate Finance law”, a journal with a focus on current legal issues corporate finance, co-editor of the Institute for Law and Finance Series and member of the editorial board of the law journal “European Company Law”.
