Conference on "Two Digital Worlds – Data Protection and Data Security in Europe and China" on 4 June 2018

On 4 June 2018, the ILF Conference on "Two Digital Worlds – Data Protection and Data Security in Europe and China" was held at the House of Finance with around 50 participants.

Dr. Rolf Friedewald, Managing Director of the ILF, welcomed the guests and made introductory remarks on the relevance of the new European Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) of 2018, the Cybersecurity Law of China of 2017 and the importance of the digitalization and Artificial Intelligence (AI) for all societies and for all jurisdictions worldwide. Dr. Christoffer Bortz, Partner Neuland Legal, Frankfurt, held a lecture on ‘Data Protection, Data Security and Data Ownership - Implications of the GDPR for international Companies’. Then, Dr. Heinz-A. Krebs spoke on ‘Innovation, Digitaliization and Data Security’. The presentations were completed by the speech of Mr. Tim A. Fongern, Sheng Heng Law Firm Frankfurt, on ‘Chinese Cyber Security Law And Its Implications For International Companies’.

A panel discussion with Mr. Philipp Zikesch, Lead Senior Legal Counsel, SAP SE; Dr. Udo Milkau, Chief Digital Officer, Transaction Banking, DZ Bank; and Mr. Kai Jodlauk, Head of Legal and Compliance, Bank of China Frankfurt Branch focusing on current aspects of the implementation of the GDPR and the Cybersecurity Law in banks and in the data processing sectors was held. The Q&A session was the last point on the agenda of the conference.

Afterwards, the guests, speakers and panelists reconvened in the Faculty Lounge of the House of Finance to informally continue discussions with snacks and drinks.
