EU IP and AI Law Summit on 24 October 2024 held in cooperation with Oracle Law Global

The EU IP and AI Law Summit took place on 24 October 2024 at the House of Finance in Frankfurt, organized by Oracle Law Global in collaboration with the Institute for Law and Finance (ILF).

The event brought together legal experts, industry leaders, and students to discuss the intersection of intellectual property and artificial intelligence within the European Union. Notably, representatives from the Chinese Patent Office in Beijing were present, highlighting the international scope of the discussions. Mr. Ning Zhou. Attorney at Oracle Law Global and Alumnus of the ILF moderated the conference.

The summit featured a series of keynotes and discussions covering various aspects of AI’s impact on law and finance. The opening remarks were delivered by Sajjad Shan and Claire Kelly from Oracle Law Global. Dr. Friedewald, Managing Director of the ILF of Goethe University Frankfurt am Main introduced the ILF’s role in these evolving legal landscapes and spoke of the technological, economic and social impact AI has and will have in the near future.

Key presentations included a talk on EU IP laws by lawyers Eric Färber and Kai Scholz, which explored current challenges and future directions in intellectual property rights as they relate to AI technologies. Another significant session focused on AI in finance, presented by Dr. Udo Milkau. This talk delved into the practical applications of AI in financial services, such as fraud detection and performance enhancement through machine learning models .

The event concluded with a session on AI in energy by Dr. Heinz-Adalbert Krebs, emphasizing AI’s potential to revolutionize energy management and efficiency.

During a break, the representatives of the Chinese Patent Office visited the library of the ILF and enjoyed a tour guided by the Information Center Manager Mr. Thorsten Brückner.

Overall, the summit provided a platform for robust discussions on the regulatory, ethical, and practical implications of AI in various sectors, fostering a deeper understanding among participants of the transformative power of artificial intelligence in shaping future legal frameworks.
