ILF Public Lecture on "Crypto-assets: From Bitcoin to the new world of digital tokens" on 12 June 2019

On 12 June 2019, the ILF hosted a public lecture on "Crypto-assets: From Bitcoin to the new world of digital tokens". Prof. Dr. Andreas Cahn, Executive Director of the ILF, welcomed the speakers and 45 guests attending the lecture.

Dr. Philipp Paech, Associate Professor of Law, London School of Economics and Political Science, UK, gave an overview of the legal as well as technological issues regarding the market structure and the participants of the digital ledger technology and architecture to create and to transfer digital assets, tokens and currencies such as Bitcoin.

Ms. Elisabeth Noble, Senior Policy Expert, European Banking Authority (EBA), spoke about the different regulatory issues which are connected to crypto-assets and what solutions legal frameworks in different countries are currently offering or will need to define in the near future in Europe.

Finally, Dr. Christian Schmies, Partner of the law firm Hengeler Mueller, Frankfurt Office, described the situation for digital assets and tokens issued under the current regulatory regime according to German and European laws.

After the presentations, the panel discussion was chaired by Prof. Dr. Cahn, with the speakers answering questions from the audience as well.
