Lecture by Ms. Katrin Otto of Deutsche Börse Group on “The Chinese Capital Market - Opportunities and Challenges for European Market Operators" on 1 December 2016

On 1 December 2016, the ILF together with Konfuzius-Institut Frankfurt e.V. of Goethe University Frankfurt am Main hosted the evening lecture “The Chinese Capital Market - Opportunities and Challenges for European Market Operators” given by Ms. Katrin Otto of Deutsche Börse Group, an expert in the capital markets industry and China-related topics.

Dr. Rolf Friedewald, Managing Director of the ILF, and Ms. Christina Werum-Wang, Managing Director of Konfuzius-Institut, welcomed about 40 attendees by introducing both institutes and the lecturer Ms. Otto.

Ms. Katrin Otto who started off her career proving consultation services in the capital markets industry and has led several China-related strategy topics in Frankfurt, London and China, is currently managing China-related projects for the Deutsche Börse Group and is pushing forward the Group’s China strategy.

In her speech, Ms. Otto gave an overview of the Chinese capital market and an insight into the strategy design and execution of the Deutsche Börse Group’s China strategy, underlined by several case studies.  Her speech was closed by a vivid discussion, where the opposing Chinese and German views on the topic were expressed by Chinese and German attendees from the student body of the LL.M. International Finance program and practitioners from German and Chinese banks, companies and law firms.

The evening lecture was followed by a networking reception at the Faculty Lounge of the House of Finance where further discussions on this interesting topic continued.
