Students' Field Trip to Berlin from 11 to 14 May 2023

ILF students and staff went on a field trip to the German capital Berlin from 11 to 14 May 2023. On Thursday, 11 May 2023, our students and staff took the train from Frankfurt to Berlin, arriving at about 1 pm. After checking into the hostel, we went on a 3-hour guided walking city tour of  Berlin where our students were given an overview of the history of Germany and Berlin while visiting many of the monumental and historical sights in Berlin. The tour ended at the restaurant Hopfingerbräu located near Brandenburg Gate where our students enjoyed a welcome dinner. During the evening, a raffle was held where 6 of our students won tickets to the football match of Union Berlin against Freiburg to be held on Saturday at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei which is a football stadium in Berlin-Köpenick and the largest single-purpose football stadium in Berlin.

In the morning on the next day, our students visited Deloitte where they were warmly welcomed by Dr. Klaus Pilz and Dr. Moritz Maier of Deloitte Legal. Thereafter, presentations on the following topics were conducted by the Deloitte representatives, which were then followed by a lunch at the premises of Deloitte.

  • MICAR and Payments - Friends or Foe?  by Mr. Christian Stedler, Deloitte Legal
  • The Future of Law - How to Organize New Processes, Technology and People in Legal Departments and Banks by Mr. Dimitri Geidel, Deloitte Legal
  • Deloitte Center for the Long View by Mr. Tobias Steller, Deloitte
  • Career Opportunities for International Lawyers / Professionals at Deloitte by Mr. Felix Skala

In the afternoon, our students could enjoy some free time before meeting up again at the German Parliament (Deutscher Bundestag) in the evening for a guided tour of the building and facilities. The evening ended with a beautiful sunset which they could watch from the roof of the building or through the dome on the rooftop.

The third day was a free day for our students to relax and enjoy themselves with visits to museums, monuments, parks, the football game or just simply taking a relaxing stroll along the River Spree.

Finally, on Sunday morning, our students and staff left Berlin for Frankfurt by bus. It was a wonderful field trip for the class with lots of good memories!
