Transatlantic Legal Conference 2019 on 5 April 2019 held at the ILF

The ILF together with the German American Lawyers' Association (DAJV) hosted the first Transatlantic Legal Conference on 5 April 2019 at the House of Finance.

Four working groups presented and discussed with recognized experts from the United States of America and Germany current topics and cases of transatlantic relevance and covered the following areas of law:

  • Arbitration Litigation Mediation – ALM (Climate Change: A new frontier and climate for dispute resolution?)
  • Constitution Legislation Public Law – CLPL (Legal challenges of autonomous systems)
  • Mergers & Acquisitions – M&A (The MAC is back ! Lessons from Akorn/Fresenius for cross-border dealmaking) 
  • Antitrust, Regulated Industries, Media – ARIM (Legal transformation from an inhouse perspective - big ideas and corporate legal department reality)

The Transatlantic Legal Conference 2019 was concluded in the evening with a reception and a formal dinner. The welcoming remarks were given by Dr. Rolf Friedewald, Managing Director of the Institute for Law and Finance, and Dr. Olaf Christiansen, President of the German American Lawyers’s Association.

Mr. Frank Sportolani, President of the American Chamber of commerce (AmCham) in Germany e.V., delivered the dinner speech and shared his views about the development of the American-European economic relations since the election of the Donald Trump as President of the United States of America and his "America First" policy.
