Wolfgang Rief was heading the Standard & Poor's Frankfurt insurance team, which is servicing clients in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. In addition to his function as senior analyst he is active in business development. He joined Standard & Poor's in June 2000.
Wolfgang Rief has a wide expertise in the field of insurance and related topics. The Solvency II development, which is complementing value based management and rating processes is of special interest to him.
Wolfgang Rief was born in Göttingen, Germany. He has pursued a long and focused career in insurance business. After an apprenticeship with the Gothaer group he studied at the University of Cologne - specializing in insurance - and holds a business administration degree (Diplomkaufmann). He started his business career as assistant to the management of the GDV, the German insurance association. Later at the Gerling group, where he worked for over fifteen years, he was trained in reinsurance and international industrial insurance, and became responsible for controlling and strategy development of international activities. Additionally he was instrumental in developing the rating processes for various companies of the Gerling group.
